Professor Thrasyvoulos Tsiatsos, from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and Digitalization Lead within the EPICUR Alliance, was selected as one of the 20 Ambassadors of the European Digital Education Hub. This recognition highlights EPICUR’s pioneering contribution to building a fully connected European Education Area.

A technological transformation expert driving the interconnection of universities’ management systems

Through his work leading EPICUR-SHAPE-IT’s Work Package 3: Reinforcing digitalisation, Professor Tsiatsos has been at the heart of EPICUR’s digital transformation. WP3 team’s development of the EPICURUS platform offers the digital infrastructure of the EPICUR Alliance and the interoperability and interconnection with the EPICUR partners’ local systems.

Thanks to this innovation, students from all 9 EPICUR partner universities can enroll easily and seamlessly to the EPICUR course offerings. The technological innovation significantly streamlines the user experience, simplifies the management of student records by universities, and fosters greater inter-university collaboration across Europe.

Connecting European Higher Education and Research IT Systems

Launched in June 2022 by the European Commission, the European Digital Education Hub is an online community for digital education enthusiasts in Europe and beyond. The initiative organises workshops, training sessions, and research programmes to identify and implement strategies that will lead to better education across the continent.

As part of this movement, a Digital Education Ambassadors Programme has been launched, joining the forces of a dynamic team of educators, researchers, and digital learning experts from across Europe to shape the future of education!

One of their main areas of focus is improving the interoperability of university IT systems. By appointing Professor Thrasyvoulos Tsiatsos, the commission acknowledges his expertise and EPICUR’s role in shaping new ways to teach, learn, research and collaborate across Europe. In parallel with these new missions, he will continue to bring his expertise in the European Higher Education Interoperability WorkGroup (Taskforce 2 – Data Models and APIs).
