Digital University - Open Ukrainian Initiative (DigiUni)

DigiUni is an Erasmus+ project building an inclusive digital educational ecosystem in Ukraine, so that students can access quality education wherever they are.

About the project

DigiUni responds to the needs set out in the Digital Education Action Plan 2027 and in Ukraine’s Concept of Digital Transformation of Education and Science until 2026. It follows the EU agenda and is grounded in the European Education Plan.

The project was launched to bring structure to the fragmented digital transformation of education by building an inclusive digital ecosystem. Its scope covers all educational levels and promotes adult education and lifelong learning through formal, non-formal and informal digital education.

Digital capacity under pressure

Over the past few years, Ukrainian universities have developed significant capacity in using digital technologies to support teaching and research. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused unprecedented damage to the Ukrainian higher education system, making digitalisation vital for institutions to keep functioning.

Towards a shared digital ecosystem

There is an urgent need for effective digital education, supported by the infrastructure required for distance and inclusive learning. Ukraine’s Concept of Digital Transformation of Education and Science (May 2021) calls for an integrated digital environment uniting everyone involved in education and research, and for better digital content and services. The Plan for the Restoration of Education and Science (August 2022) further stresses the need to unite universities into strong regional centres of higher education.
