EPICUR Alliance’s ambition is to transform education, research and transfer practices and opportunities across its member universities in order to develop original cutting-edge solutions and train new generations of European change makers.
A grant to support launching research collaborations across universities
Launched for the first time in 2024, EPICUR’s Seed Funding scheme has been devised to stimulate synergies between teaching and research. Through the offer of financial support, it helps build research collaboration projects between EPICUR partner universities.
The set-up of a joint scheme is seen by the alliance partners as a strategic investment. It initiates a collaborative coordinated effort to stimulate research partnerships and ensure a more efficient allocation of resources than if each university were to independently create incentives for collaboration within EPICUR. All funds made available to the Seed Funding projects originate from own institutional resources.
EPICUR Seed Funding 2026: the call is now open!
The EPICUR Seed Funding Call 2026 supports the development of collaborative research projects across the Alliance. It is open to researchers affiliated with one of the eight EPICUR partner universities and encourages the creation of international consortia involving at least three partners from three different EPICUR countries. Proposals can address any scientific field and are particularly encouraged to align with EPICUR’s strategic priorities.
From idea to impact
Projects funded under this scheme are expected to contribute to the development of new research collaborations, including:
- early-stage ideas,
- pilot studies,
- and proof-of-concept activities.
In addition, each project must integrate a joint EPICUR learning activity of at least 6 hours and aim to submit an application for external funding within 12 months after the end of the project.
Ressources
Selected projects can receive up to €150,000 and may run for a period of up to 12 months, starting from January 2027, with the possibility of extension under specific conditions. The funding can support a range of activities such as:
- research work,
- meetings,
- workshops,
- mobility, and proposal development.
The total budget available for the 2026 call varies by institution.

- Call publication: 29 April 2026
- Submission deadline: 15 September 2026 (23:59 CET)
- Applications must be submitted in English via the dedicated platform with all required documents
- Results will be communicated in December 2026
- Expected project start: January 2027
