EPIC_LAB

EPIC_LAB establishes mobile city-labs in Thessaloniki, Amsterdam, Odense, and Karlsruhe to address housing precarity, energy poverty, and urban climate adaptation. Researchers, students, and citizens co-create evidence and share methods across all EPICUR universities through hybrid formats. As a pioneering incubator, EPIC_LAB fosters transnational collaboration, strengthens a network on just and sustainable urban transformations and prepares a joint external funding application.

As climate change reshapes European cities, EPIC_LAB positions itself as a pioneering incubator for innovative research and teaching collaboration. It establishes mobile city-labs in Thessaloniki, Amsterdam, Odense, and Karlsruhe as experimental spaces where researchers, students and citizens co-create knowledge on the critical challenges of European cities: housing precarity, energy poverty and urban climate adaptation. These city-labs combine research pilots with joint cross-campus teaching, advancing synergies between scientific inquiry and experiential learning while preparing the next generation of European change makers. EPIC_LAB further develops methodologies in which immersive technologies not only reproduce but also enhance sensory experience, distributing agency among people, places, and technologies. In doing so, the project provides a proof of concept for future large-scale projects and lays the foundation for a sustained EPICUR network on just and resilient urban transformations.
